Report Cards & Parent Teacher Conferences

First quarter report cards will be issued this Thursday, November 10, 2011.  Please make sure that you ask your child for his or her report card and sign it.

Parent Teacher conferences will be held this Thursday evening from 4:30-9:15.  Appointments can be scheduled by calling the guidance office 301-925-2315.  Walk-ins are also welcome.  Please plan on spending some time this Thursday meeting with your child's teachers.

End of First Quarter

This Friday is the last day of the first quarter.  All work that is completed through this week will count as FIRST QUARTER grades.  Any work not completed or not submitted will be counted as zeros.

Testing & High School Applications

• 8th Grade AVID students will be taking the Readistep test on Wednesday.
• Reading FAST 1 test will be this Friday, October 14, 2011.
• Math FAST 1 test will be Monday, October 17, 2011.

• Applications for the Science & Tech test are available in the guidance office.  All 8th grade students interested in taking the test must complete an application. 

Progress Reports

Progress report grades are due by Thursday, September 22, 2011.

Progress reports will be issued to students on Friday, October 7, 2011.

Candy Fundraiser

We are asking all families to help us with the yearly AVID fundraiser.  We will be selling candy bars from the "World's Finest Chocolate" company.  Each box contains 50 bars that are $1 each.  Students will be bringing letters home this week that contain more information.  If you are able to help, please sign and return the letter with your child.

All money raised goes toward this year's field trips for the AVID team.  It will be used to offset part of the transportation costs in an effort to bring the price of each trip down.

Back-to-School Night

Back-to-School Night will be held this Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 7:00-9:00.  Please plan to attend to meet all of your child's teachers.  Information will be presented by each teacher regarding homework, classwork, and assessment policies.

Welcome to the AVID Team!  We are excited to begin another school year.  This year, in addition to teaching the curricula, we will be preparing students for future education and work experiences.  Our expectations are high, and we expect every student to meet and exceed these expectations.  Check back frequently for updates from the team and individual classes.
